Scholarship Awards

Each year, Community for Education Foundation recognizes Overcoming Obstacles students who have used the communication, decision making, and goal setting skills they learned through the program to successfully overcome challenges in their lives. These young people are presented with a Student Achievement Award at our annual Achievement Awards dinner and receive a $10,000 scholarship for higher education through either the Jack L. Siegal Memorial Scholarship or the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Scholarship.

Every middle school and high school student who has participated in the Overcoming Obstacles program and applied these skills to his/her daily life is eligible for nomination. For more information on these scholarships, please call (212) 406-7488.

The Jack L. Siegal Memorial Scholarship

The Jack L. Siegal Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Jack L. Siegal, one of the first supporters of the Community for Education Foundation, who taught by example the importance of communication, decision making, and goal setting in overcoming life's obstacles.

The Jack L. Siegal Scholarship Fund provides $10,000 for postsecondary education to Student Achievement Award winners who apply the life skills learned through Overcoming Obstacles to their academic and social lives.

American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Scholarship

In 2008, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association initiated a partnership with Community for Education Foundation to award scholarships to Student Achievement Award honorees interested in careers in science or medicine.

Recipients of this scholarship must personify the Overcoming Obstacles program by using communication, decision making, and goal setting skills to meet life's challenges. The scholarship provides $10,000 in financial assistance for students who are pursuing higher education.
