Community for Education Foundation staff is available to assist you via phone or email as you implement the program in your school. Ongoing support includes assistance with implementation planning, developing goals and objectives, recommended practices, and more.
Implementation Planning
CEF staff members are available to help you implement the program. This includes assistance with identifying how the curriculum will be used (e.g., advisory periods, core content classes, after-school programs), how often the program will be taught, who is going to teach the curriculum, which lessons to prioritize, and how to gather support for the program.
Developing Goals and Objectives
CEF can also help your school identify its goals and ensure that the program meets your objectives. This is done by factoring in your school's culture and mission, identifying measurable outcomes, targeting issues that need to be addressed (e.g., bullying, lack of communication skills), and identifying how to use Overcoming Obstacles to accomplish your school's goals.
Recommended Practices
There is no wrong way to use Overcoming Obstacles, though CEF suggests that your school takes a few things into consideration first. Pacing plans ensure that everyone is on the same page, that lessons are not duplicated, and that your use of Overcoming Obstacles coincides with your school's other initiatives. It is also a good idea to identify the person who will oversee the program, as he/she can provide on-site guidance and ensure that the program runs smoothly.
Additional Resources
CEF has a collection of lessons in addition to those found in the standard curricula that can be utilized to expand a school's program. These are available online to current users at no cost. To download our complimentary handbooks and activities, please visit our free resources page.
