Read MoreA major turning point in my life came at my ten-year high school reunion when Sara, the girl who had bullied me relentlessly throughout my middle school years, came up to me and apologized. I remember it vividly. She said, “I was really mean to you in school and I’m sorry.” We met again a few weeks later. What she shared with me blew my mind and broke my heart. Sara had been a victim herself, suffering abuse at home. She said that bullying kids at school somehow made her feel better about herself. She told me that to make amends for things she had done, she was teaching children life skills. And that if we had learned them, our lives would have been very different.
