EDUCATION REVOLUTION

Publicado: Marzo 25, 2021

By Jill Siegal Chalsty, Founder of Overcoming Obstacles

In early May of this year, Overcoming Obstacles will launch a new curriculum delivery platform where every word of every lesson can be modified by educators to meet their specific needs. And as always with Overcoming Obstacles, this service will be FREE – no hooks, no catches, just a nonprofit organization helping educators do their important work. This is not only revolutionary for life skills education, it’s revolutionary for all education.

Very few people were talking about life skills education when I founded Overcoming Obstacles in 1992. In fact, it took some convincing to get Principal Dr. Robert Barner to use our curriculum in his high school in South Central Los Angeles. However, after one semester, Dr. Barner became our best spokesperson.

Over the past three decades, Overcoming Obstacles has been taught by hundreds of thousands of educators to more than 65 million students in all 50 U.S. states and 170 countries. What started as handbooks has evolved into 1,500 pages of activity-based K-12 curricula that quite literally change the dynamics of a classroom, and the trajectory of children's lives forever.

Those of us involved with Overcoming Obstacles believe that you cannot put a price on life skills education—and that is exactly why we don’t. Free access for something every child must learn not only seems like the right thing to do, but is the right thing to do.

I couldn’t be more proud of what Overcoming Obstacles is doing to make our communities—and our world—better places in which to live. I’m grateful for every school administrator and educator, and every advocate and funder of Overcoming Obstacles, for their contributions to this education revolution.

You can download the entire Overcoming Obstacles K-12 curriculum by logging in to your account. If you don’t yet have one, registering is fast, easy, and free—now and forever. Click here to get started. And if you think other educators would find Overcoming Obstacles’ lessons beneficial for their students, please share this blog with them.
