Life Shouldn’t Be This Way

By Jill Chalsty, Founder and Chairman of Overcoming Obstacles

Growing up, I had no one to speak with about what was going on in my life and did not know how to express my feelings. I had to do battle each and every day. And I had scars, visible and invisible, like an animal that fights to survive. There is one Overcoming Obstacles lesson that could have changed everything for me and, I believe, can change our world.

In Overcoming Obstacles Middle School Level, Module Six – Problem Solving, you’ll find an opportunity to engage your students in activities where they will bond with each other, while learning the steps to solving their problems. In Part Three (“It’s Personal”) of Lesson Four in this module, students actually learn to apply their new problem solving skills to an issue in their lives.

Children need a safe forum to share their thoughts and concerns, and to hear what others are thinking. This is how an Overcoming Obstacles classroom helps young people, and changes a school’s culture.

As 2019 begins, teach Overcoming Obstacles life skills lessons to your students and encourage every educator you know to teach them as well. Start at the beginning or with Module Six – Problem Solving. Just, please, begin today.
